Meet Benjamin Melody
We have recently welcomed a Proficient Behaviour Support Practitioner working in a contractor capacity. Through Tranquil Trails, he is available to accept Specialist Positive Behaviour Support referrals across the ACT, NSW South Coast and surrounding areas, subject to individual service needs and capacity.Benjamin has more than 15 years of experience working in the disability support sector. Before moving into Behaviour Support, Benjamin worked across supported independent living and one-to-one community settings. This gave him a practical understanding of the everyday support needs of people with disability, including individuals with complex physical, personal and behavioural support needs.
For the past four years, Benjamin has provided Positive Behaviour Support across Sydney, Canberra and the NSW South Coast, supporting people of different ages, backgrounds and support needs. His experience includes working with behaviours of concern such as physical aggression, self-injury, and repetitive or compulsive behaviours. Benjamin believes effective behaviour support begins with building trust and understanding the person behind the behaviour. His approach is person-centred, evidence-informed and practical, with a focus on developing strategies that can realistically be implemented in everyday environments. He works collaboratively with participants, families, carers and support teams to better understand what behaviour may be communicating and to develop supports that are meaningful, consistent and sustainable. His work focuses not only on reducing behaviours of concern, but also on supporting quality of life, independence, positive relationships, safety and meaningful participation.
Alongside his professional work, Benjamin has spent the past 10 years in a volunteer role providing compassionate listening and practical support to people experiencing mental health and personal challenges in Australia and overseas. He is currently completing a Bachelor of Arts in Clerical Counseling – Family, with a minor in Social Work. For Benjamin, one of the most rewarding aspects of Behaviour Support is seeing practical changes make a meaningful difference for participants, their families and the people who support them.
